Our View of the Laser Industry
These are exciting times in the laser industry. There are more potential laser applications than ever before, from biomedical applications, to imaging, to quantum computing, to semiconductor inspection, and other new uses which are currently being developed. These cutting-edge applications require new laser designs, modifications to designs, or have other novel requirements that don’t quite fit the current molds or capabilities of products available.
Our founders have been pioneers in the laser market for over 20 years. But in that time, they have seen a concerning trend – where large laser companies are getting larger and abandoning their roots in the scientific markets to focus on higher profits margins and higher volume laser manufacturing efforts, effectively eliminating their ability or desire to customize products for the scientific or academic communities. These companies make some high-quality and high-performance products, and they generally have several high-end flagship products designed to address academic and research needs, but at a significant and cost-prohibitive price point. The intent for those products is to make a high profit without needing to customize (because customizations are difficult and generally do not have favorable business cases for these large companies). And with academic and scientific research funding limitations, the high price of these products can derail and project. This is the laser industry equivalent of the old Henry Ford Quote: “Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.” And the lack of customization can stifle innovation.
This creates a significant gap compared to the need for research and innovation. And this is precisely where Sci Lase steps in. We understand this gap and established Sci Lase to address the needs of the scientific, academic, and research communities.

Our Technology
Our core technology (and expertise) is based on specialty fiber optics and fiber components. All of our product offerings are fiber-based (Yb, Er:Yb, Tm, and more). These allow us to access a wide wavelength range from 1000nm to >2000nm. Coupled with fiber and crystalline nonlinear optical conversion, we can address an even wider spectral range to meet your needs.
We design products using a modular approach, from the mechanical packaging to the optical layout to electronics. This enables a low-cost method for manufacturing and product configuration. Think of it like Laser Building Blocks – we use smaller pieces to enable us to create newer designs in a cost-effective manner, reducing redesign costs and allows for faster delivery times.
